Home
Welcome to the Europe Today website. This site is different from most companion sites for textbooks. First, the research for the site was done by students, for students. A group of MA students from the SAIS Bologna Center of the Johns Hopkins University were given an early offprint of the book manuscript. They were asked: "If you were going to do some research on the web to support the various chapters in this book, what would you look for and where would you go?" The following pages are the result.
For each chapter, we have provided a series of annotated links: pointing out what is good and what is bad; where to find basic data or primary documents; and where to find recent commentary or analysis. We have also included links to the chapter authors and to a set of common resources that the students all found useful. Finally, we have included a brief description of the student researchers themselves. We hope that you will find this material helpful.
A second aspect of this website is that it is dynamic and not static. The European Studies program at the SAIS Bologna Center has committed to maintaining and expanding the website over the years to come. As part of that expansion, we hope to include teaching materials from people who have actually used Europe Today in the classroom. University professors who use the textbook are welcome to submit any teaching materials for consideration. Provided that the materials meet acceptable minimum standards (and do not pose any legal problems related to copyright or liability), we would be happy to add them to the site and also to include a link to personal or institutional home pages.
Finally, we believe strongly that the site is only useful if it is used. Therefore we are very eager to receive comments, criticisms, and suggestions. We will also commission periodic reviews of the site and its contents. Therefore, if there is anything that we can do to help you (and you students) use the Europe Today textbook and its accompanying series, please let us know.
Sincerely,
