Thishani Nadesan | London, UK MA Candidate (BC11) | Anderson Fellowship recipient
Thishani (Thish) Nadesan is a University of Oxford Graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. She has experience interning for an environmental consultancy group, a think tank and a global management consultancy company in London as well as a micro finance and lending organization in Bangalore, India.
Thish applied to SAIS because of her interest in a prospective career in international affairs. She hopes to combine the public and private sector in her work, "I am interested in how international development and joint public and private sector ventures can bring about increased returns to society," she says.
To this end, she sees her internship experience as a complement to the knowledge she will gain at SAIS, with its integrated program, which brings together economics and politics with a dual location. "I want to see how perspectives in Europe differ from the American perspectives," she says, explaining how the stimulating discussions and arguments among classmates enable a continuous exchange of ideas.
"The Bologna Center attracts a varied group of people and ensures a very unique and connected experience," says Thish, describing the strong bonds that arise from studying in the Bologna environment. "People come to SAIS from every perspective and background, which leads you to discuss things and contemplate working in areas you had never heard about."
Thish also intends to apply her SAIS skills in policy analysis in the future. "I think it is important to understand and be able to work with policy on every level in international affairs," she says, explaining how the SAIS academic structure will enable her to study functional elements of geopolitics, as well as gain regional knowledge and skills of quantitative economic analysis.
