Fabio Hirschhorn | São Paulo, Brazil
M.A. Candidate (BC10) | FIAT Fellowship recipient
Fabio Hirschhorn comes to the Bologna Center as a lawyer with experience in complex financial transactions at Itaú Unibanco, a major bank in Brazil.
"Although I had gained valuable experience in cross-border transactions," Fabio says, "the dramatic changes in Brazil's economic climate during the last 15 years indicate that the country more than ever needs professionals who can understand how other countries influence and interact with Brazil. That's why I wanted to come to the Bologna Center."
Becoming well-versed in all aspects of international relations, law and economics has guided Fabio throughout his young career. In addition to his law degree from Brazil's most prestigious law school, Fabio has an advanced degree in economics and also took a specialization course in contemporary international relations. But it was courses in international law and international relations that triggered his desire to study abroad. "Attending the Bologna Center allows me to interact with students from different backgrounds. Such an enriching opportunity will benefit me professionally and personally."
After SAIS, Fabio plans to gain international experience before returning to Brazil, possibly working in a multilateral organization. "Adding international credentials to my professional background will be an invaluable contribution to my future career objectives. Brazil currently plays a key role in energy and environmental issues, such as the search for alternative sources of energy and the invaluable heritage found in the Amazon rainforest. This panorama requires professionals concerned with and capable of understanding such complex subjects," Fabio says. " I know my studies at Johns Hopkins University will be fundamental for achieving such an objective."
