The Bologna Institute for Policy Research (BIPR) is the research division of the Johns Hopkins University in Bologna, Italy.
The BIPR promotes problem-centered, interdisciplinary research in international policy, drawing upon the global network of scholars of the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and the comparative advantage of the SAIS Bologna Center as a transatlantic institution for research and teaching with more than fifty years of experience in Europe.
Resident Faculty Fellows lead research programs in the following six main policy areas.
Each research program is enriched by visiting scholars, seminars, conferences and
publications.
- Transatlantic relations and the changing world order
- Implications of the global economic and financial crisis
- Ethnic conflict and post-conflict resolution
- Energy, technology and the global environment
- Comparative regional integration in Europe and elsewhere
- Political transition in Southeastern Europe and the Mediterranean
The BIPR conducts independent research supported by the Johns Hopkins University and the SAIS Bologna Center through contributions from alumni, friends, foundations and academic grant-making programs. The work of the BIPR is made available to the public with the goal of providing a pivotal forum for thought and debate in international public policy.
The BIPR is directed by Erik Jones, Professor of European Studies.
Inquiries regarding opportunities to support the activities of the BIPR or collaborate as a visiting scholar may be directed here .
