Dear Alumni & Friends,
As you all know by now, the recent volcanic activity in Iceland has disrupted air travel across the globe. We have been closely monitoring communication from the airlines and government authorities, and we have been in contact with many of our alumni and colleagues who are stranded at airports and hotels throughout the world.
After having invested many months of effort and resources in planning an exceptional reunion for all of you, I am saddened to say that I have decided to cancel all of the formal events associated with Alumni Weekend 2010. While it is impossible to know whether travel conditions might improve later this week, we felt that it was important to make a decision now to allow you as much time as possible to adjust your travel plans. It has become clear that we will not have anything close to the participation that would make having such an event worthwhile for the many of you who were planning on traveling long distances to see old classmates, professors and friends.
We will be offering full refunds to all of you who have already paid their registration fees, or the opportunity to “convert” your registration fee to a donation to the Center, in which case we will provide you with a receipt for the donation. Please send us an email, with the words "REFUND" or "DONATE" in the subject line, and any additional information or requests in the body of the email. Those who paid by credit card will receive a credit, those who paid by cash or bank transfer should contact the Business Office to make arrangements.
Please do join us for the next occasion to celebrate and see old friends and classmates in New York for our third annual Amici di Bologna event on Saturday, June 5, 2010.
Best regards,

Ken Keller
Director of SAIS Bologna Center
and Professor of Science and Technology Policy
