Dear Alumni,

A new academic year has just begun in Bologna with a class of close to 196 students from 37 different countries making up the student body. Before long they will join you as Bologna Center graduates, a group that now exceeds 6,000. As that number continues to grow, and your lives and work take you to every part of the globe, one of our challenges is to ensure that your connections with the Bologna Center remain strong.

Over the past few years as Director of the Bologna Center I have had the pleasure of meeting many of you in person, and I am often asked, "How can I help?" or "How can I re-connect with the Center in a way that would be useful?" We have actually put a good deal of thought into that, and as you will see here at this site, and in the latest issue of the Bologna Center's magazine, the Rivista, we have specified a number of ways in which you could collaborate with us.

One of the things we pride ourselves on at the Bologna Center is that we genuinely feel that any contribution to our work has value, whether it be an offer of a job or internship for one of our students, a donation either for a fellowship or to build our endowment, or the referral of a promising student who is considering graduate school. All of these efforts help us ensure the continuation and the quality of what we do. All of them are extremely important and I encourage you to keep your ties strong or to renew them if we've lost touch in recent years.

Alumni Weekend 2010 will be held in Bologna 23-25 April 2010. You are some of the most mobile people in the world, but we hold this event annually to give you a reason to come back. I hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

Ken Keller
Director of SAIS Bologna Center
and Professor of Science and Technology Policy
